YoYoFactory contest team member and Canadian national Champion Jensen Kimmitt wins the the 2010 World YoYo Contest with his new signature yo-yo the NORTHSTAR by YoYoFactory.

(a delightfully time wasting post )

While sitting in the 4th ring diwaniya and talking about everything and anything, in the corner of the room  a screaming contest was underway between some of the boys about the best and most beautiful cars and the usual arguments pop up about this and that going about in circles with no sign of light at the end of the tunnel, the time kept flying by and there was no foreseeable end to the discussion that really doesn’t add any value or have any significance, until one good lad shouted out “how bout the Mini Cooper?!” and they sat their quietly for a second or two and agreed that yes it is a nice car not the most beautiful but its a nice car as it does everything its supposed to do in almost all departments, the mini has the  looks, design, and is simply cool… it has this nostalgic and hip feeling which you can rarely find in many of todays cars….after the argument was resolved and they were both on common ground the boys hopped in the car, drove to the avenues, enjoyed some delicious steaks  at the Gaucho Grill and went on to have a hell of a night with some friends they caught up with…

The moral of the story? life’s short find your mini.

Do you remember back in the day when KTV used to play the national anthem at  midnight and in the early morning when the channel starts airing, i wonder why they stopped that… i know that channels today are twenty four hours but that still doesn’t justify not airing the national anthem, i really hope they do bring that long lost tradition back because when i remember the times the national anthem was played with the waiving flag and the picture of the late Amir Jaber Al Ahmed it gives you that sense of pride and patriotism and a general “feel good” feeling singing the national anthem along with the tune….hopefully someone will read the post, do something about it, bring us back our national anthem and play it to us everyday!

Designed by naval engineer Paolino Napolitano to provide a jellyfish and other dangerous sea life-free place to swim while out boating, the Magic Swim is essentially nothing more than an inflatable pool like you may have enjoyed as a kid. Made from durable PVC it weighs about 66 pounds when empty and can be setup with the assistance of a standard air compressor in about 5 minutes. Mesh covered holes allow the Magic Swim to fill with water once it’s deployed, but also keep unwanted visitors out, and a semi-rigid floating platform in the center of the pool allows you to stand once it’s completely filled with water.

Why do i have a feeling that soon im going to see this inflatable pool popping around Kubbar, Bnaider, and Al 7alah….. if you want one visit their website: www.euroship.it the pool will set you back around $2,250/-

I was enjoying my daily web surf as usual and randomly i came across a touchy and quite interesting article where in a nutshell it talks about how people who write with their left hand die younger than right handed people! being a lefty i thought it was just downright absurd! and i quote Some studies have indicated that left handers are more likely to die prematurely than their right handed counterparts. It was thought that left handers may be more prone to accidents because their sense of spatial awareness is not as acute as right handers.” Spacial awareness what the hell is that! its BS thats all i have to say! Now to all my lefty’s out there dont cave into all the bad propaganda that all those right handed haters are polluting us with and “inshala mafeena ela el 3afia, wel a3mar eb eed allah” …. so let me wrap this useless post with the following:

“Chris McManus of the University of London argues that the proportion of left-handers is rising and left-handed people as a group have historically produced an above-average quota of high achievers. He says that left-handers’ brains are structured differently in a way that widens their range of abilities, and the genes that determine left-handedness also govern development of the language centres of the brain.”

The past couple of days i was lucky enough to attend a seminar about the so called “Green Movement” and how companies are shifting towards environmentally friendly products may it be product packaging, clothing material, and most importantly cars. What raised a lot of eye brows during the discussion in the seminar was the subject the future of cars and how people really do believe that zero emission vehicles are the way of the future so much to say that they truly believe electric cars and other zero emission vehicles such as hydrogen based cars will have a solid and profitable market share in the region. Now personally i do not think that there is such a market in the gulf and car buyers are still not aware of the impact of global warming let alone the importance of reducing C02 emissions and many other factors; now i heard what the others have said but what do you 4th Ring Road readers think about this subject, what are your views, would you buy one, and whats your outlook about the future of electric cars in Kuwait and the GCC?

*** a quick interesting question: what do you think is the second most C02 emitting “thing”?

“Wisdom: The Greatest Gift One Generation Can Give to Another” is a truly unique and interesting read by author/photographer Andrew Zuckerman, the book which is also in DVD format in a nutshell takes you through Zuckerman’s  wisdom-hunting quest among 50 of the generations greatest thinkers and doers — writers, artists, philosophers, politicians, designers, activists, musicians, religious and business leaders — all over 65 years of age like Clint Eastwood, Ted Kennedy, Robert Redford, and Nelson Mandela to name a few. He asks 7 questions,  and records candid responses in a way that reveals a wealth of intelligence, inspiration and insight.  The book also contains great photos of the people interviewed and its really quite a light and joyful read, you can get your copy from Amazon

Recently i have been infatuated with with artistic pictorials and the person who was the reason behind this new found love was the creative American photographer Tony D’Orio.  You can describe his work as being some what “Retro”, the way he uses bright and cinematic lights gives you that feel of a long lost era while being humorous at the same time. The picture above is one of my favorites the baby’s lips, eyes, and the posture of the kid gives you a feeling of grandeur and of him being a wise guy even though he’s just a baby! i mean even look at how he’s placing his hands! anyway if you want to check out more of D’Orio’s work click on the link below:

The weather the past couple of days is simply pleasant, we sit around outside enjoy our tea and coffee chatting and laughing with friends and see people whizzing away on the 4th ring road and we usually see the occasional strange car pass by or maybe the often traffic jams that clog the 4th ring… but what strikes us the most is the genuine disrespect that drivers have for ambulance cars on our streets today. A couple of friends and my self have been constantly observing this phenomena of disrespect to ambulance drivers where people simply do not even attempt to make way for ambulances bearing in mind that every second counts and some one else out there might be in dire need of medical help but when it comes to police cars oh no!!! its a different story because mr police man may slap you with a ticket! …

FinlayTIME

Time magazines latest issue has been causing quite a stir lately, as you can see from the cover of the magazine their cover story is quite dramatic judging from the name the used for the article “The Decade From Hell” and since were counting down the days til  new year, this issue takes us back on memory lane sighting the various incidents that took place in the past 10 years…. and it really makes you sit back and think and realize a lot of unfortunate things happened like the tsunami, the earthquakes that ravaged Asia, hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost on wars, terrorism has reached a new level of brutality, secular BS is in an all time high, the global economy is broke, and lately even Dubai has gone bust…

i mean these are just some of the things off the top of my head but personally i don’t believe that its a decade from hell and i think they are over exaggerating and looking at the glass half empty while  im looking at it half full, lots of good things happened too like the environmental awareness that has been sweeping nations, information is becoming more accessible to people day by day, and political reform is kicking in even though slowly but still its there and not to mention Obamamania! just to name a few.. and in the end as long as you have your health and good people around you its not going be that bad, you just have to thank god for that and keep on truck’n… so what do you guys think when looking back at the last 10 years were they really from hell???
