I have recently read somewhere that to date, 18 people have rejected the prestigious post of the Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority. This could just be one of the most powerful financial jobs in Kuwait, perhaps second only to the Governor of the Kuwaiti Central Bank. This news snippet made me think, why would anyone refuse an offer as grand as this? I understand if one or two candidates refused it, but 18? It’s just not right…

Northern Virginia-based Elevation Burger will be opening its first Middle Eastern outlet in October in the Avenues Mall in Kuwait.Personally i never tried it, but what i make out of the website is that the produce used is more or less organic and free range which is a refreshing change; below is the official statement from the restaurant:

“This is a great step in expanding the Elevation Burger vision internationally and ideally more and more of our locations will be developed in projects like The Avenues,” said Hans Hess, founder of Elevation Burger. “We’ve received interest from entrepreneurs in other Middle Eastern countries, so we anticipate expansion elsewhere in the region in the very near future.”

“46) Sheikh Fahid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah

The president of the Kuwaiti Football Association was at the centre of one of the tournament’s most farcical moments when he rushed on to the pitch in Valladolid to argue with the referee during his country’s 4-1 group spanking by France at the 1982 World Cup.

The Sheikh took issue with what the Kuwaitis saw as an offside goal and at one point appeared to beckon his players off the pitch. The referee crumbled and disallowed the goal, but the incident made little difference in the grand scheme of things as the Arab side went home with just a point from the group stage.”

eydaam is a restaurant based on Kuwaiti food and their kind owners have sent us a few items from there menu to try out and we have one thing to say: we in the 4thringroad diwaniya LOVE THEIR MORABYAN!!!! they sent us an assortment of items from there menu which we all liked however one thing stood out and got addicted to which is their morabyan.

There are a lot of restaurants in Kuwait based on Kuwaiti dishes who offer items like machboos diyay, machboos la7am, morabyan, harees, jareesh, emawash, baryani (indian), etc… and most of them lack neatness, cleanliness and presentation. The good owners of eydaam have taken the concept one step further and provided the ideal package to send our lovely Kuwaiti traditional food to your home in a very creative box which includes three cups consisting of a salad, maabooch and dackoos as you can see below:

We highly recommend our readers who like traditional Kuwaiti food to try out eydaam. They are located in Al-Adailiya area and here are there contacts: 22531316 or 22529948.

Do you remember back in the day when KTV used to play the national anthem at  midnight and in the early morning when the channel starts airing, i wonder why they stopped that… i know that channels today are twenty four hours but that still doesn’t justify not airing the national anthem, i really hope they do bring that long lost tradition back because when i remember the times the national anthem was played with the waiving flag and the picture of the late Amir Jaber Al Ahmed it gives you that sense of pride and patriotism and a general “feel good” feeling singing the national anthem along with the tune….hopefully someone will read the post, do something about it, bring us back our national anthem and play it to us everyday!

All of you already know about the proposed ban on Blackberry services in Kuwait. The furore started a few days ago when the idea was announced, the Telecoms companies were supposedly told to either give alternatives or they would be forced to stop giving the service.

The ministry’s reason is that they cannot monitor or regulate the messages sent through the BBM service. They fear that the BBM could pose a threat to national security. Now I can’t really fault them for trying to make us sleep safely each night but to be honest with you I’m not really convinced it would solve the problem. What about other internet chatting services such as MSN messenger and WhatsApp? Don’t they also allow the forwarding of potentially dangerous messages? Since most phones are now connected to the internet then these chatting services can be easily installed right?

Let’s assume that Blackberry’s are banned, I would easily replace my Blackberry with any other smartphone and install MSN messenger, was the ministry successful in preventing me from receiving what is considered unsafe messages? I don’t think so. I think that if the aforementioned unsafe message have reached its target audience then the damage is already done, what’s the point of regulating or monitoring the conversations if the message was already distributed? Deterrence? I’m not really convinced.

Are they being overprotective? Definitely
Did they really think this through? I doubt it

What do you guys think??
