Kuwaiti Voters… Thank you
By Abdulmohsen
The elections came and went but its results will stick in our minds forever. His Highness the Emir said to help him by choosing wisely. The Kuwaiti voters responded and the change we saw today morning is greater than it looks.
It might seem obvious that 4 female MPs, a great moment in Kuwaiti history, is change enough but we must look more closely to see even more change. The fall of Islamic MPs was in my opinion a sign that Kuwaiti voters were very disappointed at what they achieved in the past. Hadas now only has Jum’an Al Hirbish to represent them and Khalid Bin Essa along with Ali Al Omair representing the Salafi movement. Other independent Islamists managed to win but their popularity decreased significantly. In the third district, Waleed Al Tabtabaie did not do as well as last year and so was the case with Al Omair, Al Meslim and Al Sara’awi. I worried about Al Sara’wi the most becuase he could not be classified as Islamic, his proverbial beard was never used to promote his agenda. The voting numbers of the Islamic candidates might be a warning sign to them and they should keep a low profile, no more dancing and shoe lifting!
The smear campaign aimed at Aseel and Al Meslim did not stop them from being MPs and that proves that the voters are now more aware of who were behind these dirty tactics and what was the purpose behind it. Hadas also had suffered from bad press but there is no reason to dwell further… :)
In the first district we have Ma’asooma Al Mubarak in first place and it is clear that voters of all races and religious sects voted for her. That was a heart-warming sight. She was the first female minister and she was also the first female MP to cement her place in Parliament and she deserves it.
The second district disappointed me a bit because even though Al Anjery managed to get a good number it was clear that it was because of Al Saqer’s followers. Al Abduljader’s numbers were worse than I expected but I was especially saddened by Al Naibari’s loss. I thought that Al Rashed beating Al Khorafi was really a point worth noting.
I have nothing to say about the fourth and fifth districts except for the fact that illegal primaries are still effective but Thikra Al Rasheedy’s numbers proved that things are on the mend.
I think the increase in number of votes along with the projected low turnout mean one thing. The number of voters giving single votes might have decreased and started to think about other candidates who deserve a vote. This might be a direct response to the Emir’s request of wise voting.
The nation’s voice is now heard… we now wait on who is the new Prime Minister and who will make up the Ministry Council. Will we see change in those positions? Only time will tell…
Another position we should think about is that of the Speaker of the Parliament. Will Al Khorafi retain his position? Or will Al Sa’adoun ride his wave of popularity to that chair?
Change is only half done, will that continue with the aforementioned positions?
We’ll have to wait and see…
Am I happy with the results? You bet!
:)

I was sad about Alnaibari losing, but overall I am just thrilled with the results, just absolutely thrilled. Ilhimdilla. 4 women with NO QUOTA and NO BRIBERY … doesn’t that tell you a thing or two about Kuwait?

Question: How, as hamad il jo3an said, can they swear to respect the law and they started by breaking it?
ALSO, there is a law for women entering the parliment to wear hejab or conservtive cloths, if they dont how will they swear to uphold and protect the law?
see the problem?
